I went outside to take some pictures today but it was 92 degrees (and felt like 99 degrees. Sorry, too hot for me!)

Instead, I am going to share a Georgia landmark… Stone Mountain…  Stone Mountain is a granite mountain in Stone Mountain, Georgia. Its highest elevation is 1,686 feet. The granite extends underground 9 miles at its longest point into Gwinnett County.

Three figures of the Confederate States of America are carved on the north face of the mountain. They are the following: Stonewall Jackson, Robert E. Lee, and Jefferson Davis.

There are many things to do at the park. You can ride the train around the base of the mountain…..

and visit the Old Grist Mill….

and ride the sky ride…..

and visit the Antebellum Plantation….

and ride on the Riverboat…

    Susan, I have been there. It is a fabulous place to visit. So much to do. I did some work for Emory University and went there in the evening after I was finished working. Didn't have a lot of time to spend but it was a wonderful summer evening and I visited the plantation and did A LOT of walking. Wonderful place. Thank for bringing back good memories.

    I have so many fond memories of Stone Mountain.. I haven't been in years though. Ashley went a few months back when they had it transformed into Snow Mountain... She had a blast.

    Yikes 92 degrees...ugh! I don't blame you for turning around and heading back indoors!! This looks like a great place to visit! I think I've said it before but I need to get to the South...I've never been south of D.C. or East of Dallas...

    Hi Susan, It sounds really hot where you are, we are expecting warmer weather here in CA but with no humidity I can just about handle it lol. Stone Mountain looks incredible 9 miles underground that's impressive, looks like a fun place to visit, happy Outdoor Wednesday, Kathy.

    Hi Susan,

    Stone Mountain is just amazing isn't it? I love it there. The laser show was always my favorite part there becuase you could relax after a hot day and have a nice picnic dinner and watch the show. Love it there.

    Hi Susan...Of course I've been there...but not in a while! They used to have an area where they boiled corn in the shucks and peanuts outdoors. You could sit at a picnic table and eat until you couldn't move! I miss that part!! lol Have a great week...Debbie

    oh, the park...Stone Mtn. is where I met my husband...on the Robert E. Lee Riverboat...we danced to a dj's music during a girlfriend's birthday party while the boat paddled around the lake! great pictures :)

    I'd love to visit Georgia & Stone Mountain someday. And I'm sure with your 92 degree weather that it is also humid. I can't handle humidity. That is why I live in southern California. It does get a little humid, but nothing like the eastern half of the country. It's been unseasonably cool here for the past 3 weeks. Only in the low 70's. It's been nice, except that we haven't seen the sun much. Today it got up in the 80's. So looks like hot sunny California weather is on the way. Thanks for visiting my post & leaving me a comment.     I would love it all but the cable car. Those things scare the daylights out of me!

    We were in the town of Stone Mountain but not at the park. We were in Atlanta for a Company Convention and Warren had to meet with someone in Stone Mountain. So close...too bad we didn't stop by.

    Does no one sleep, Ha Ha! I couldn't believe how many people were here before me--OK I know there's a time difference and some people are actually up when I'm asleep in some countries.     I lived in the city of Stone Mountain while attending college and could be inside the park from my apartment in a matter of minutes. What a fun flashback for me! The fireworks shows at night were always great.

    It is just so hot here too Susan. If I don't get out into the garden before 10 am, forget it. I have heard of Stone Mountain and have been through Georgia so many times, but have not had the pleasure of visiting it. Savannah is our long weekend getaway, but I would love to visit Stone Mountain and I am enjoying looking at the links.

    Susan, Thank you for your wonderful comment on my post. I miss the south sometimes, esp. when it should be going into summer and it feels like a cold, wet, spring still. I like all your photos but one,the sky ride, only because I am afraid of heights! Which is too bad for me because the view looks beautiful!

    How fun to stop in and see Stone Mt. featured and the old Grist Mill, YEAH!!! We were there a few years back when our kids lived there just starting out in their married life! It was a great day, I'd love to go again sometime. That whole area is so rich in history and it offers such an array of things to do and see. Sorry your weather is so hot, Yikes! We are lucky to hit the 90's maybe once or twice during the summer. That's okay though, summers are awsome here in upper Mich.     Of course, I've heard of Stone Mountain, but I didn't know it was actually just a large mass of granite with no trees, etc. Is this where they make the Stone Mountain purses. I have one that has lasted for years.
