I went outside to take some pictures today but it was 92 degrees (and felt like 99 degrees. Sorry, too hot for me!)
Instead, I am going to share a Georgia landmark… Stone Mountain… Stone Mountain is a granite mountain in Stone Mountain, Georgia. Its highest elevation is 1,686 feet. The granite extends underground 9 miles at its longest point into Gwinnett County.
Three figures of the Confederate States of America are carved on the north face of the mountain. They are the following: Stonewall Jackson, Robert E. Lee, and Jefferson Davis.
There are many things to do at the park. You can ride the train around the base of the mountain…..
and visit the Old Grist Mill….
and ride the sky ride…..
and visit the Antebellum Plantation….
and ride on the Riverboat…
There is a lot to do and see! For more information visit Stone Mountain.

Susan, I have been there. It is a fabulous place to visit. So much to do. I did some work for Emory University and went there in the evening after I was finished working. Didn't have a lot of time to spend but it was a wonderful summer evening and I visited the plantation and did A LOT of walking. Wonderful place. Thank for bringing back good memories.
ReplyDeleteI have so many fond memories of Stone Mountain.. I haven't been in years though. Ashley went a few months back when they had it transformed into Snow Mountain... She had a blast.
ReplyDeleteYikes 92 degrees...ugh! I don't blame you for turning around and heading back indoors!! This looks like a great place to visit! I think I've said it before but I need to get to the South...I've never been south of D.C. or East of Dallas...
ReplyDeleteThis looks an awesome place!
ReplyDeleteGood to see Mr Linky is working this week, so you don't have to add all the links manually this time :)

Hi Susan,
ReplyDeleteStone Mountain is just amazing isn't it? I love it there. The laser show was always my favorite part there becuase you could relax after a hot day and have a nice picnic dinner and watch the show. Love it there.
Boy, I'll bet you are happy to see Mr. Linky here this week!!
Jennifer
Hey Susan...this is too funny. You wrote about Stone Mountain GA and I wrote about Stone Mountain NC. Yours is way more fancy. I would love to visit it one day.
ReplyDeleteThe park looks like it was a fun trip. I have never been to Georgia, but if I can ever get the Husband to leave the house for a vacation, I would love to visit. Looks beautiful!
ReplyDeleteWow, Georgia is so full of attractions! I can't imagine where I'd go first if I'm there! I guess that's normal everywhere you go, but I love the Stone Mountain. Huge!
ReplyDeleteHi Susan,
ReplyDeleteStone Mountain looks amazing, I really must visit America one day. I am so happy to be back with you today, I have missed blogging soooo much. I still have another week of The Wizard of Oz then I'm free.

ReplyDeleteSusan-Thank you for your comment on my blog...you are number 1 this week and before I even got a chance to link up, I'm impressed. I feel like I'm getting a personal sight seeing tour of GA attractions...I think I'm going to have to make a trip down, I do have cousins and an aunt and uncle in the Atlanta area. Happy OW.
ReplyDeleteSusan, I always look forward to Outdoor Wednesdays on your blog. Your pictures of Stone Mountain remind me of a trip we took there when our boys were young---how fun!! Thanks as always.
ReplyDeleteHi Susan...Of course I've been there...but not in a while! They used to have an area where they boiled corn in the shucks and peanuts outdoors. You could sit at a picnic table and eat until you couldn't move! I miss that part!! lol Have a great week...Debbie

ReplyDeleteWhat an amazing place, Susan!! Love everything except the sky ride! ;-)
ReplyDeleteYour temps are unbelievable!! Is this normal for June? We sometimes have days like this in Chicago in July or August. Right now it is rainy and cold.
Happy OW!!

That's an impressive mountain! And the sky ride..., just like in Switzerland (where I grew up). Stay cool, Susan!
ReplyDeleteI don't know nuthin'bout no Stone Mountain! This Northern gal should go there sometime, it looks wonderful. I have been THROUGH Georgia on the way to Fla.
ReplyDeleteHave you ever been to Long Island, Susan?
Wow. 92 degrees, hard to imagine. We seem to miss out on summer up here in the North East, well it's not summer yet officially. What a mountain that is. Thanks Susan for the tour and for hosting OW.

ReplyDeleteWow! That mountain is impressive! Neat place, thanks for sharing :)
ReplyDeleteAll the best,
Allison
I'd love to visit Georgia & Stone Mountain someday. And I'm sure with your 92 degree weather that it is also humid. I can't handle humidity. That is why I live in southern California. It does get a little humid, but nothing like the eastern half of the country. It's been unseasonably cool here for the past 3 weeks. Only in the low 70's. It's been nice, except that we haven't seen the sun much. Today it got up in the 80's. So looks like hot sunny California weather is on the way. Thanks for visiting my post & leaving me a comment. And thanks for hosting this fun event.
ReplyDeleteI'll have to add this to my "places to see" list. Looks like a wonderful experience.
ReplyDeleteSusan, We beat you in Texas, it was 99.8 and the heat index was 108.....with a hot wind blowing. Unbearable. Love the pictures of Stone Moutain, was there a long time ago, nice to see it again.
ReplyDeleteMy son visited there for a class trip in 5th grade! We lived in FL at the time. I have never been so it was wonderful to see these pictures.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful pictures. And I would love to be on the riverboat right about now - it's in the 90's here too, and has been for a couple of weeks. Happy Outdoor Wednesday to you! Kathy
ReplyDeleteI would love it all but the cable car. Those things scare the daylights out of me!
ReplyDeleteWe were in the town of Stone Mountain but not at the park. We were in Atlanta for a Company Convention and Warren had to meet with someone in Stone Mountain. So close...too bad we didn't stop by.
Does no one sleep, Ha Ha! I couldn't believe how many people were here before me--OK I know there's a time difference and some people are actually up when I'm asleep in some countries. Anyway, Susan, I love these pictures. I was there many years ago and absolutely loved everything about the plantation, the mountain, I think it's just amazing.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing. Happy Wednesday!
Dear Susan,
ReplyDeleteThank you for taking me to Stone Mountain. It looks like an awesome place to go.
I am glad Mr. Linky was working today and you did not have to put us in one at a time.
Happy Outdoor Wednesday. You're a true Southern Hostess.
hugs
debbie
Wow, I must have gone to bed JUST before you posted last night - so many people have checked in already! I think I would really enjoy that sky ride through the trees - oh, to be surrounded by such beautiful greenery :)

Thanks for sharing about Stone Mountain, have never been there, but looks like a great place to visit!
I lived in the city of Stone Mountain while attending college and could be inside the park from my apartment in a matter of minutes. What a fun flashback for me! The fireworks shows at night were always great.
ReplyDeleteThank you for hosting another lovely Outdoor Wednesday. I love these landmarks. Many of them I have never seen before. I hope you have a lovely day and a cool one too.
ReplyDeleteKaren
Hello Susan,
ReplyDeleteThose are great pictures. I have never seen anything like that before. Thank you for sharing.

It is just so hot here too Susan. If I don't get out into the garden before 10 am, forget it. I have heard of Stone Mountain and have been through Georgia so many times, but have not had the pleasure of visiting it. Savannah is our long weekend getaway, but I would love to visit Stone Mountain and I am enjoying looking at the links.

ReplyDeleteWe've been to Stone Mountain. Fabulous!
What a fabulous place to visit. Thanks for sharing the wonderful pictures Susan! ☺ Diane
ReplyDeleteThe carving detail is amazing! And so are the river boats.
ReplyDeleteBrenda
Your cyber tour of Stone Mountain was simply wonderful. I haven't been there. There are so many places to see and many things to do just in the United States. It just is amazing. Great job on your photographs!
ReplyDeleteJoyce M
Susan, Thank you for your wonderful comment on my post. I miss the south sometimes, esp. when it should be going into summer and it feels like a cold, wet, spring still. I like all your photos but one,the sky ride, only because I am afraid of heights! Which is too bad for me because the view looks beautiful!
ReplyDeleteAnd I don't know if it is just my computer but I don't get the list of participates :-( So I haven't been able to visit anyone today.
How fun to stop in and see Stone Mt. featured and the old Grist Mill, YEAH!!! We were there a few years back when our kids lived there just starting out in their married life! It was a great day, I'd love to go again sometime. That whole area is so rich in history and it offers such an array of things to do and see. Sorry your weather is so hot, Yikes! We are lucky to hit the 90's maybe once or twice during the summer. That's okay though, summers are awsome here in upper Mich. Decided to "follow" your blog after snooping around here for a while, Stop in for a visit, xoxo~Kathy@ Sweet Up-North Mornings.blogspot.com.....
ReplyDeleteThanks Susan, you are the best!! Hope it worked!
ReplyDeleteHappy day, Lilly

I remember my sister talking about this place when she lived in Georgia. Thank you for putting my link up. I had to go to a funeral and so I could scheduale my post but not my link. You are so nice to do that for me. I had many nice comments waiting for me when I got home last night.
ReplyDeleteWonderful pictures. I have heard of Stone Mountain but never been. Looks like a great place to visit.
ReplyDeleteOf course, I've heard of Stone Mountain, but I didn't know it was actually just a large mass of granite with no trees, etc. Is this where they make the Stone Mountain purses. I have one that has lasted for years.
ReplyDeleteI had not heard of it. Thank you for taking me there ;)
