6/5 Foodie Friday

I love breakfast foods…..any time of day…. Here is one of my favorites… Croissant French Toast with Fresh Strawberry Syrup…. yummy……

Croissant French Toast With Fresh Strawberry Syrup

  • Prep: 15 minutes
  • Cook: 4 minutes
  • Yield : Makes 4 servings

Ingredients

  • 4  large day-old croissants
  • 3/4  cup  milk
  • 2  large eggs
  • 1  teaspoon  vanilla extract
  • 2  tablespoons  butter
  • 3  tablespoons  powdered sugar
  • Sweetened Whipped Cream (optional)
  • Fresh Strawberry Syrup (see recipe below)

Preparation

  • Slice croissants in half lengthwise.
  • Whisk together milk, eggs, and vanilla.
  • Pour into a shallow dish.
  • Dip croissant halves into egg mixture, coating well.
  • Melt 1 tablespoon butter in a large nonstick skillet over medium heat.
  • Add four croissant halves, and cook about 2 minutes on each side or until golden brown.
  • Repeat procedure with remaining butter and croissant halves.
  • Sprinkle with powdered sugar; top with Sweetened Whipped Cream, if desired, and Fresh Strawberry Syrup.

Fresh Strawberry Syrup

  • Prep: 10 minutes
  • Stand: 30 minutes
  • Cook: 5 minutes
  • Yield: Makes about 2 cups

Ingredients

  • 1  quart fresh strawberries, sliced
  • 1/2  cup  sugar
  • 1/4  cup  orange liqueur or orange juice
  • 1  teaspoon  grated orange rind

Preparation

  • Combine all ingredients in a saucepan, and let stand 30 minutes or until sugar dissolves.
  • Cook over low heat, stirring occasionally, 5 minutes or until warm.

    Croissants are my favorite carb ever
    I NEVER thought to make french toast out of them
    Oh and strawberries are my fav fruit too... I plan on cooking a lot more so this recipe will be saved for a brunch

That looks absolutely fabulous thanks for sharing. It's so pretty LOL! I would love to serve that at a brunch it's so much fancier than regular french toast!

  11. All these years of croissant eating (I usually just freeze any that are hanging out after thefirst day) and I never thought to do this. You make it look scrumptious especially with that great strawberry sauce - if I use the orange liqueur I'll have to go back to bed. Oh yeah, that sounds like a good plan. I'll definitely be trying this out. Thanks!

  16. Susan, this looks absolutely scrumptious. Never would have thought of French toast with Croissants...sounds wonderful! Some good friends of ours own a strawberry farm...in fact, our daughter stayed overnight last night! I'll have to pick up some fresh strawberries today. Tomorrow is our anniversary, and I was wanting a new breakfast recipe. Thanks so much for sharing this!

  19. This is a keeper. Not only does it sound delishious but it looks so pretty, too.

    I make another verions of strawberry french toast using think Italian bread and stuffing it with cream cheese then topping it with a strawberry sauce.

  34. Those sound so good. I am passing recipe on to a friend who is hosting a brunch next month. I have never tried croissants for french toast. Ina Gartner uses them for her bread pudding which is to die for though. Thanks for the recipe
