Today I am going to share the blues found at the Georgia Aquarium. It opened Nov. 23, 2005, and is the world's largest aquarium. Offering more than half a million square feet, covering 9 ½ acres and adjacent to the Centennial Olympic Park, the Georgia Aquarium in Atlanta, GA, is home to tens of thousands of animals including 500 species around the world. The Georgia Aquarium holds more than 8 million gallons of fresh and marina water, and also features 60 habitats including 12,000 square feet of viewing windows, topping a total of 328 tons of acrylic.
The largest exhibit measures 263 feet long x 126 feet wide x 33 feet deep at the maximum depth, holding 6.2 million gallons of water and housing four whale sharks and the only manta ray in the U.S. along with thousands of animals. The second largest exhibit holds 800,000 gallons of water and is home to three beluga whales. Other features include the 4-D theater, the Learning Loop and the world-class veterinary services and conservation medicine facility.

ReplyDeleteI, too, love aquariums.

It still seems so odd to me that Atlanta is home of the world's largest aquarium. Living where I do I would have expected that title to go to a facility that wasn't inland. LOL I've heard it's wonderful, but we haven't visited ... maybe someday. Aren't beluga whales one of the most enchanting creatures???
ReplyDeleteSusan, I really enjoyed today's information - I'm one who follows links, so it takes me forever to get through a post :-). I loved the blues you picked for today. I find the prow like entrance to the aquarium quite striking. It would be an understatement to say it makes a statement.
ReplyDeleteWow, this would be such a fun day. Thanks for sharing, Susan. Happy Blue Monday.

Hi Susan, as many times as I go to my daughter's house in Atlanta, I have not been to the Georgia Aquarium yet..I hope to visit there one day. Thanks for sharing these great shots.
ReplyDeleteWell hello from Canada. It's been awhile.
ReplyDeleteThe Aquarium wasn't built when we lived there. I wish it was, since the kids were smaller, and we adore visiting Aquarium's. Vancouver has one of the first Aquarium's where we had a membership for years.
Happy Blue Monday Susan, hope all is well, and your settled in for the summer.
Love Claudie
