6/15 Blue Monday

bluemonday Today is Blue Monday hosted by Sally at Smiling Sally. Don’t forget to visit her site to see links to more participants!

Today I am going to share my favorite blue lady…. the Statue of Liberty!

Located on a 12 acre island, the Statue of Liberty was a gift of friendship from the people of France to the people of the United States and is a universal symbol of freedom and democracy. The Statue of Liberty was dedicated on October 28, 1886, designated as a National Monument in 1924 and restored for her centennial on July 4, 1986.

  27. Well, I blush to admit that I, a native New Yorker, have never visited this fine lady in person, although I've passed her on boats and in planes!

Good news -- more of this grand lady is opening to the public beginning July 4th! You can make reservations now to visit her crown... which has been closed since 9/11/2001.
Thanks, Susan... the Statue is the best thing we ever got from the French, except for cheese and wine!

  29. Oh, I love Lady Liberty! My paternal grandparents and their individual families were Italian immigrants and I can just imagine what they must have felt seeing her standing there in the harbor as they embarked on a new life in a new country. A great share for Blue Monday!

  35. Years ago, when they would let you, I climbed all of the way to the top of her. (I don't know if you can go all the way to the top anymore). That was a lot of years ago, and she still is so inspiring to me. (I probably couldn't make it to the top now)! Your post brought back some wonderful memories. Thanks Susan. laurie
