Waterfalls in Georgia
North Georgia is especially well endowed with cataracts, cascades and waterfalls. Some are viewable from the highways; most require some hiking (possibly strenuous in places) and some seem almost impossible to access. Spring and early Summer - and days immediately following good rains - are the best times to view most of these waterfalls.
Amicalola Falls - 222 m (729 ft)
Anna Ruby Falls – 47 m (153 ft) on the Curtis Creek side
Cascade Falls - 183 m (600 ft) cascade with 3 drops, the tallest of which is 80 m (262 ft).
Cochrans Falls - 183 m (600 ft) cascade.
DeSoto Falls - the upper falls drop about 200 ft (60 m), the middle falls about 80 ft (24 m) and the lower falls cascade about 20 ft 6 m) [Picture is from Upper Falls]
Dick's Creek Falls - 18 m (60 ft) sheer drop over a granite mound into the Chattooga River
Dukes Creek Falls – 46 m (150 ft)
Estatoah Falls - several hundred feet, exact height not known
Holcomb Creek Falls - 37 m (120 ft)
Minnehaha Falls – 30.5 m (100 ft)
Toccoa Falls – 56 m (186 ft) sheer drop

Susan,
ReplyDeleteWhat beautiful waterfalls. They are definitely worth that strenuous hike. My husband and I always think a waterfall is worth the effort it takes to get to and look at the wonderful vegetation on the way. Thanks for hosting this Outdoor Wednesday, it is always so much fun.

ReplyDelete~Amazing post Susan! :)
Beautiful falls! I didn't know that Georgia had so many beautiful waterfalls. Well, I guess most people don't know that New Jersey has the Great Falls in Paterson, right in the city -- and they are the second highest falls in the Eastern US -- only Niagara is higher.
ReplyDeleteI've got a Bosnian waterfall in my Outdoor Wednesday post! I love waterfalls -- the air always seems so clean and fresh near them.
Thanks!
Cass
I can hear the roar of the water in those pictures. They are wonderful!

It's been years since I've visited any part of north Georgia, but I have to agree with you that it is a pretty and wild part of the state and your waterfall pictures are wonderful. :)
ReplyDeleteHi Susan, your waterfalls are absolutely gorgeous. One of the things I love to see are waterfalls. They are not easy to photograph and these are so well done. Love it!!!
ReplyDeleteHugs...Jeanne
Susan this is a gorgeous gorgeous post. I just adore waterfalls. I went into my garden this morning to photograph some photos for Outdoor Wednesday. Before I knew it, I was reflecting on how much raising teenage daughters is like waiting for a garden to bloom. Inspiration comes when we least expect it. Thank you for Outdoor Wednesday because it led me to feeling so thankful today.
ReplyDeleteBlessings, Karen
You've no way of knowing, but waterfalls are places I just love. Nature's music to my ears!

Thank you for allowing us to see them!!
Sue
I love the pictures of the waterfalls! Just beautiful!!
ReplyDeleteKaren
I love waterfalls & from your photos, looks like Georgia has some fabulous ones. I've only seen waterfalls in Yosemite, Utah, Oregon. I don't think we have any here in southern California. Probably as we don't get much rain.
ReplyDeleteLove all of the waterfall photos. I've been to Minnehaha and Amicalola. May have been to Dick's Creek Falls---I know we looked for it, but don't remember if we found it or not. All so beautiful. I think Victoria (my sister who I blog with) and I will try to participate in Outdoor Wednesdays, now that I've found your blog.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous!
ReplyDeleteXO,
Sheila :-)
Susan, I forgot to ask you. Do I qualify as a Georgia blogger if my ancestors were in Georgia in the late 1700's (before and after the Revolution)? Some owned a lot of land in and around Athens, and my gggg grandmother is buried on the U of Ga campus in the old burying ground there.
ReplyDeleteXO,
Sheila :-)
Susan, I just love to see waterfalls, and these are breath taking. I had no idea there were so many in Georgia. Thanks for sharing that. laurie
ReplyDeleteThey are beautiful.. I can't imagine how they are in person with the sound of the water!
