A heat index over 100 degrees did not stop people from attending a parade here recently honoring the members of the 48th Brigade and their return from Operation Enduring Freedom.
They made their way down Cherry Street and were welcomed back from service in Afghanistan during a ceremony at City Hall.
Members of the Vietnam Veterans of America saluted the troops…..
Their salute during the National Anthem….
The brigade’s commander welcomed the mayor "as a member of the tribe'' by dressing him in a traditional Afghan costume…..
It was their day…. they are our heroes….. My family and I appreciate them all……

ReplyDeleteHow I wish I could be outdoors today after two solid days of rain! Unfortunately I'm working. The doors are open though and I am working in a wildlife park so not so bad. I live near a Royal Marines base and we sometimes have these parades to welcome the boys home. Not so well attended or appreciated here though I think .

ReplyDeleteThat's the perfect way to welcome home our troops! In San Diego, where my sons live, the people gather at the docks to welcome home the troops aboard ship and it brings tears to my eyes, but a parade...awesome!!

Thanks so much for sharing these photos. It's always nice to see American citizens paying tribute to those that lay down their lives for our liberties and freedoms..I never take them for granted...they can disappear before our eyes when the wrong influence comes into the picture.
Well...there ya go..you sure brought out my patriotism! I'm also the daughter of a retired military man.

ReplyDeleteWhat a fabulous event!! It seems that all too often anymore, our service men and women don't receive the thanks or honor they deserve. I can't recall hearing of any parades to honor returning soldiers, so how wonderful that your city has done that. They definitely deserve to be honored.
