Some people sure have short memories…..

I don’t pass along YouTube videos very often… but I think everyone needs to watch this one…and pass it along!

(From the video) “Some people sure have short memories…..and those who are too young to know need to be taught.. ..Come on I want to show you guys something…..”

(Turn your speakers up and get your tissues ready)

“We salute the brave men and women who have sacrificed so much for our freedom… ‘All gave some, some gave all’”

They fought for you (and me) and continue to do so EVERY day….

“THOSE WHO ARE TOO YOUNG..NEED TO BE TAUGHT” (and also the older ones who don’t seem to know any better)

Fort Hawkins was established in 1806 by President Thomas Jefferson and Indian Agent Col. Benjamin Hawkins as an official U.S. Army Fort and Indian Factory for trading and meeting with Native Americans. At the time, it was the western frontier and a wilderness. It overlooked the ancient Indian Mounds of the "Old Fields" held sacred by the Muskogee Creek Nation, the Ocmulgee River, the Lower Creek Pathway that became the Federal Road connecting Washington, D.C. to Mobile and New Orleans, and the future site of the city of Macon founded across the river seventeen years later.

Macon Terminal Station was constructed in 1916.  It was designed by Alfred Fellheimer of New York City and built to be the union station of all 15 railroads operating in Macon at the time. The Terminal Station building has a limestone exterior with the Main Lobby and Waiting Areas having marble floors and walls of pink Tennessee marble.

More than 100 arrivals a day were handled through the Macon Terminal during the 1920’s and 1930’s-the heyday of passenger rail. These were steam locomotives followed by the newer diesel locomotives and passenger trains such as the Nancy Hanks, which ran 1948-1971.

Rose Hill Cemetery was founded in 1840 on 65 acres of land nestled next to the Ocmulgee River on the north side of Macon, GA. The cemetery serves as the final resting place for thousands of people. There are over a thousand confederate soldier graves located in the cemetery; there are also graves for three GA governors, 31 mayors, and several senators/congressmen. Several notable entertainers are buried in the cemetery as well. The cemetery is presently owned and maintained by the City of Macon. The cemetery is both the oldest and the largest of all 33 cemeteries located within the city.

I love old cemeteries and the monuments.. so am sharing some this week from the cemetery…….

Happy Fourth of July

As we celebrate America’s birthday this Fourth of July, let us remember that our forefathers, the signers of the Declaration of Independence, pledged their lives, their fortunes and their sacred honor. These brave men sacrificed all for us so that we may live in the land of the free.

image[6]

Today, we still have brave young men and women putting themselves in harm’s way so that we may continue to enjoy our freedoms. Our military service members continue to fight the War on Terror—some serving as many as four tours of duty—so that we can keep our independence and protect our homeland. The Fourth of July is a time of reflection. To ask ourselves, do we really appreciate their sacrifices? Do we really know what the real price of freedom looks like?

May you all have a Happy (and safe, for those traveling) Fourth of July weekend……

God Bless our military and their families…..
