Moi?

I have been blogging less than a month and this week I received not one but two awards! I am honored and humbled. Thank you ladies for the awards!

My first award is the Lemonade Award from one of my blog followers, Lynette at Lynette's L.A.M. Blog.

Lynette started her blog this past fall when she found herself at odds and needed to find something to do with herself after her daughter started college. Her blog “L.A.M.” stands for “Life after Megan” (how sweet!). Check out her blog when you get a chance. She recently posted about some gorgeous wooden pieces her father crafted…and they are gorgeous!

Tablescape Tuesday – Winter Blues?

Today is Tablescape Tuesday, hosted by Susan and her blog Between Naps on the Porch. This week I have a simple winter tablescape in the kitchen….

using one of the fairies that Judith at Sweet Designs sent me before Christmas in the centerpiece (Thanks Judith).

I really like the dark blue glass with the clear glass (I am still looking for some cobalt blue stemware/glassware) but I like the little glasses with snowflakes (found at the Dollar Tree for one dollar each!)

Here is a place setting…..

When you remove the bowl……. you find a white snowflake on top of the salad plate…..

And below the salad plate is the dinner plate…..with a large white Styrofoam snowflake used as a placemat (another Dollar Tree item).

The napkins are white linen and the flatware is what is left of our Oneida Dover set.

I scattered some of the glass crystal shapes used in the centerpiece on the table and put snowflakes under the candlesticks.

Blue Monday

Today I thought I would join Sally at Smiling Sally for Blue Monday. I love blue and white, and this would give me an excuse to show off a few of the items my sweet husband gave me for Christmas!

Suggestions/Thoughts Needed

What do you all think about a future “Outdoor Wednesday” or something similar….where every Wednesday participants post a picture of an area/vignette/etc outside their home? It could be a picture of your porch, deck, patio, garden, lawn, plant, flower, etc…..

I could post a list every Wednesday showing all the blogs who are participating. I selected Wednesday so that if you were out in the yard over the weekend working and taking photos that you would have a few days to put together a post. Also, if someone posted a picture that inspired an idea for your yard…it would give you a few days before the weekend to plan!

What made me think of this? Well, I was recently standing out on the deck looking into my backyard…. it looks bare this time of year…. the winding path that travels beyond the fence and around the woods is thick in leaves waiting to be raked….. everything is covered in an extra layer of mulch for protection…..

As the weather starts to warm the backyard turns lush and green. In the woods there are various sitting areas. On the side and front of the house are roses and other blooming plants….. so many things for me to share with all of you…….. I know you all must have areas outside that you would like to share!

I don’t know if this is something any of you might be interested in doing. I decided I might as well ask!  If you are interested, when would you want to start?  “Outdoor Wednesday” isn’t a very ‘catchy’ phrase… perhaps someone might come up with a better name?

Please leave your thoughts and comments below. I look forward to hearing any ideas you might have. If there aren’t any/enough interested, that is okay too…. I will still post my outside pictures as the weather warms up!!! Spring will be here before we know it!

I have enjoyed following everyone’s entries in previous Pink Saturdays, so I thought I might join in on the fun!

Today I am sharing Pink Needlework!

My favorite are these two pink roses done in needlepoint by my maternal grandmother. On the back, is written her name, 1938 (date they completed) and Cumberland, Maryland (where they were living at the time). Aren’t they GORGEOUS!

She passed along to me her love for needlework (although I haven’t done much the last few years). Here are a couple that I have done…..

Reflecting on Candlesticks

The end of another year. As with so many other holidays, I raised my glass in a silent toast to my paternal grandparents who are no longer with us. I am not sure when I started the traditional gesture, but I have done it long enough that my husband and kids no longer ask what I am doing. My grandparents have both been gone almost 20 years….and I still miss them both.

The following picture is of two candlesticks that were once my grandparents. They were among some of the things my dad gave me that were once theirs. They are two of my most treasured items in my house.

I took a break from my Christmas un-decorating and cleaning to sit down and admire them. I wish I had thought to ask my grandmother about them. They were usually on the dining room sideboard at my grandparents house. Were they a wedding gift? Were they my great-grandparents? They are priceless (to me)because they were my grandparents.

I would LOVE to know more about the candlesticks (when/where they were made, etc)… …

Anyone have any thoughts or ideas?
