Waterfalls in Georgia

North Georgia is especially well endowed with cataracts, cascades and waterfalls. Some are viewable from the highways; most require some hiking (possibly strenuous in places) and some seem almost impossible to access. Spring and early Summer - and days immediately following good rains - are the best times to view most of these waterfalls.

 Amicalola Falls - 222 m (729 ft)

Anna Ruby Falls – 47 m (153 ft) on the Curtis Creek side

Cascade Falls - 183 m (600 ft) cascade with 3 drops, the tallest of which is 80 m (262 ft).

Cochrans Falls - 183 m (600 ft) cascade.

DeSoto Falls - the upper falls drop about 200 ft (60 m), the middle falls about 80 ft (24 m) and the lower falls cascade about 20 ft 6 m) [Picture is from Upper Falls]

Dick's Creek Falls - 18 m (60 ft) sheer drop over a granite mound into the Chattooga River

Dukes Creek Falls – 46 m (150 ft)

Estatoah Falls - several hundred feet, exact height not known

Armed Forces Day- Saturday May 16

In the United States, Armed Forces Day is celebrated on the third Saturday in May. The day was created in 1949, and was a result of the consolidation of the military services in the Department of Defense. It was intended to replace the separate Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard Days, but observance of these days, especially within each particular service, continues to this day.

image

So why am I mentioning it today instead of waiting until Saturday? Because I think we need to spend more than ONE day thinking about and thanking those who do so much for us……. the sacrifices they and their families make…. on a daily basis….

God Bless Our Troops

Forget about about the politics….. these are families like you and me….. that have answered the call…to defend our freedom….

image

My challenge (request) to each of you this week (and perhaps in the future)….when you see someone in a military uniform while you are out and about…. take the time to stop him/her and tell them “Thanks”… you’ll be surprised to find how good it makes you feel!

5/11 Blue Monday

bluemonday It’s time for Blue Monday hosted by my friend Sally at Smiling Sally. Don’t forget to visit her site to see links to more participants!

Yesterday my husband mentioned he saw quite a few bags of blueberries in his parent’s freezer…. not the store bought kind… but the picked fresh and frozen…… and I haven’t been able to get them out of my mind! I asked him to grab me a bag (or two) when he goes back to take them their groceries (we have been shopping for them the last few months).

I love blueberries…. fresh….
