Rose Hill Cemetery was founded in 1840 on 65 acres of land nestled next to the Ocmulgee River on the north side of Macon, GA. The cemetery serves as the final resting place for thousands of people. There are over a thousand confederate soldier graves located in the cemetery; there are also graves for three GA governors, 31 mayors, and several senators/congressmen. Several notable entertainers are buried in the cemetery as well. The cemetery is presently owned and maintained by the City of Macon. The cemetery is both the oldest and the largest of all 33 cemeteries located within the city.

One of your Macon boys was next to us on the beach. Jason Aldean and his family were right next to us. My son recognized him (I had never heard of him, but had heard his songs) Thanks for letting me join the party!
ReplyDeleteSusan this is a magnificent cemetery! I enjoyed looking at all your photos.

ReplyDeleteI love these stones. They are gorgeous, so detailed and each very different from the others. It must have been such an honor to have someone work on carving out just the right stone, even selecting already carved would be neat. Thanks for sharing these - I love the angels the most.

We offer tours of it as there are several Hessian soldiers and Revolutionary soldiers buried here. I loved seeing the pyramid tombstone and the little girl figure. Thanks for hosting Outdoor Wednesdays.
