The South's iconic groundhog, Gen. Beauregard Lee, waddled out of his "Weathering Heights" mansion on February 2 and failed to see his shadow on the Georgia red dirt. No shadow means an early spring. Beau is about 17. The general life expectance of a groundhog in the wild is about six or seven years.

ReplyDeleteGood for Beau. We haven't even had winter yet. smile. Spring is trying to pop out here in the mountains but 18 degree weather coming up in a week could be sad for all the early spring buds. Sigh. Beau is pretty cute. We have a ground hog who lives on our mountain but he is very shy.
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful Wednesday Susan.
Hugs, Jeanne
Susan, We have always celebrated Ground Hog's day until my husband had a heart attack. A group of us would go enjoy a pizza together. A puppet Ground Hog would be the center of attention that day. I have seen real ground hogs in my lifetime but never had the pleasure of taking a picture of one. Lucky you! You have. Happpy Belated Ground Hog's Day.
