--------------------------------------------------------------------

Legend has it that if a groundhog sees his shadow on February 2, six more weeks of winter can be expected. Otherwise, spring is at hand.

Georgia's weather forecasting groundhog is predicting an early spring.  Rainy, cloudy weather kept shadows away.

At 7:35 a.m. a Twitter posting from the Yellow River Game Ranch in Lilburn said Gen. Beauregard Lee did not see his shadow in the rainy 40 degree morning.

The prediction was delayed when Gen. Lee got away from his handlers and hid, then climbed a fence behind his mock-mansion home. Official predictions call for more rain in Georgia later in the week but Gen. Lee did not address that issue.

  9. Hi Susan! I finally have something going on in my yard to report! lol I have read that our General Lee is far more accurate than Phil...something like 97%! Of course, a cloudy day in February and an early spring would both be easy to achieve here in Georgia! Happy week!...hugs...Debbie

  11. I don't think I can remember a time when we didn't get a prediction of six more weeks of winter!! I think I am watching the wrong groundhog if Lee is more accurate and does better with the sunshine predictions!

  12. You know, as rodent-y things go, groundhogs are fairly cute!

  14. Well, I am betting on Staten Island Chuck, from good ol' New York, who did not see his shadow, and declared winter KA-PUT. As for Punxatawney Phil, that Pennsylvania ground hog, he always sees his shadow -- so many TV lights there is no shade!
Staten Island Chuck bit the NYC mayor on the finger last year; gotta love a spunky ground hog like that.

They are cute; I hope Chuck is right, but we've got snow tonight!

  15. Groundhog Day sounds a ot like the UK's St Swithins Day. If it rains on that day it will rain for the next six weeks or so the legend goes.
Hope the Groundhog came out this year.
This week I'm joining the meme from my other blog, Quimper Club International.
We've got a giveaway for our 1st Anniversary and I'd love it if you could stop by later.
    Happy O W,

  21. So cute! This is a great outdoor post! I guess I'm one of the few people that love winter...maybe because it doesn't get that cold here;-) I do feel for the folks knee deep in snow, so I wish for an early Spring...for them!

  23. We plan on snow in May most of the time here in Idaho, it is beautiful and very necessary! We count on the moisture for our 'famous potato' crops!

  24. I have heard these tales about the groundhog all my life. I am not sure that he and nature coordinate the weather. One thing for sure, he is an ugly creature.

  25. Gray and rainy here...no shadows in sight!
But the aquifers are filling up. Important round here for those with personal wells.
    Happy OUTDOOR day!

  26. He got away from his handlers. Too funny. "So what do you do for work?" "Oh I wrangle a groundhog, yup. Little sucker got away from me too. You can never be too careful with them guys".

  28. Gen. Lee looks like a slick one! No springtime here yet; looks like we have a mess coming in for our weekend.

I'm late, but my post is now up.
