Legend has it that if a groundhog sees his shadow on February 2, six more weeks of winter can be expected. Otherwise, spring is at hand.
Georgia's weather forecasting groundhog is predicting an early spring. Rainy, cloudy weather kept shadows away.
At 7:35 a.m. a Twitter posting from the Yellow River Game Ranch in Lilburn said Gen. Beauregard Lee did not see his shadow in the rainy 40 degree morning.
The prediction was delayed when Gen. Lee got away from his handlers and hid, then climbed a fence behind his mock-mansion home. Official predictions call for more rain in Georgia later in the week but Gen. Lee did not address that issue.

HERE ARE THIS WEEK’S PARTICIPANTS:
I think Mr. Groundog is very cute. That is so funny that he escaped from his handlers!
ReplyDeleteHope they found the General! So glad to have an early Spring in the South!!!!

Hi Susan
ReplyDeleteThat means it will be six more weeks of winter! I guess it's time to knit more wool mittens and socks :-)
Happy Outdoor Wednesday!
Hugs, Pat
I don't know about the groundhogs, but I'm sure ready for spring myself!
ReplyDeleteI am snowed out...and more than ready to have a discussion with Phil or General Lee...
ReplyDeleteThe topic...early retirement!
Were're supposed to get six more weeks of winter. I don't mind I think groundhogs are cute. :)
ReplyDeleteHi cutie...what a great ground hog shot :)
ReplyDeleteI need to check out if we get more snow or not...My bet is we do-- but none the less it will all be wonderful and great stuff to capture.
Thanks for the wonderful mid week reason i have for look at the beauty around me!
Claudia
I am so happy to hear that due to expert precictions you will have an early spring. We on the other hand will have to wait six more weeks. Darn groundhog. Cute post!
ReplyDeleteHi Susan! I finally have something going on in my yard to report! lol I have read that our General Lee is far more accurate than Phil...something like 97%! Of course, a cloudy day in February and an early spring would both be easy to achieve here in Georgia! Happy week!...hugs...Debbie
ReplyDeleteSusan could you please remove my link... it says my giveaway ends Jan 31 and it is wrong... I am having an outdoor art giveaway and it ends 2/7... I tried to add a second correct one and I couldn't.
ReplyDeletePlease let me know when I can relink it correctly... Thank you... Fifi
I don't think I can remember a time when we didn't get a prediction of six more weeks of winter!! I think I am watching the wrong groundhog if Lee is more accurate and does better with the sunshine predictions!
ReplyDeleteYou know, as rodent-y things go, groundhogs are fairly cute!
ReplyDeleteTink *~*~*
Cute groundhog, but I'm betting we will all have 6 more weeks of winter no matter what he says! Thanks for hosting Susan. - Delores
ReplyDeleteWell, I am betting on Staten Island Chuck, from good ol' New York, who did not see his shadow, and declared winter KA-PUT. As for Punxatawney Phil, that Pennsylvania ground hog, he always sees his shadow -- so many TV lights there is no shade!
ReplyDeleteStaten Island Chuck bit the NYC mayor on the finger last year; gotta love a spunky ground hog like that.
They are cute; I hope Chuck is right, but we've got snow tonight!

Groundhog Day sounds a ot like the UK's St Swithins Day. If it rains on that day it will rain for the next six weeks or so the legend goes.
ReplyDeleteHope the Groundhog came out this year.
This week I'm joining the meme from my other blog, Quimper Club International.
We've got a giveaway for our 1st Anniversary and I'd love it if you could stop by later.
Happy O W,
~Maggie B~
Well, for us there will be 6 more weeks of winter. No shadow when the groundhog came out..
ReplyDeleteLove this post. I had already written my post about the groundhog waiting for you to post Outdoor Wed. so i could link to it. I DO hope spring is just a round the corner. I'm ready. Linda AKA MomMom
ReplyDeleteHi Susan, Love the groundhog pic. I do have a yearning for spring.
ReplyDeleteHugs, Jeanne
Too cute! Love your post Susan! I am so ready for Spring.

Timely choice of subject matter for this week's post! Hope Spring comes soon for those of you buried in snow and ice! My Outdoor Mosaic is at Small Reflections
ReplyDeleteHugs and blessings,
So cute! This is a great outdoor post! I guess I'm one of the few people that love winter...maybe because it doesn't get that cold here;-) I do feel for the folks knee deep in snow, so I wish for an early Spring...for them!

Oh boy, its snowing here again so I don't know Mr. Groundhog hehehe.
ReplyDeleteCan't find the Mr.Linky, I thinks its my connection that has problem. Would appreciate it if you could please add mine on the list. Thanks.

We plan on snow in May most of the time here in Idaho, it is beautiful and very necessary! We count on the moisture for our 'famous potato' crops!
ReplyDeleteI have heard these tales about the groundhog all my life. I am not sure that he and nature coordinate the weather. One thing for sure, he is an ugly creature.
ReplyDeleteGray and rainy here...no shadows in sight!
ReplyDeleteBut the aquifers are filling up. Important round here for those with personal wells.
Happy OUTDOOR day!
He got away from his handlers. Too funny. "So what do you do for work?" "Oh I wrangle a groundhog, yup. Little sucker got away from me too. You can never be too careful with them guys".

ReplyDeleteGen. Lee looks like a slick one! No springtime here yet; looks like we have a mess coming in for our weekend.
ReplyDeleteI'm late, but my post is now up.
Happy Outdoor Wednesday!
I think Winter is gonna last until mach 21st!
ReplyDeleteDefinitely no signs of spring here yet... It's snowing again!
ReplyDeleteSpring would be nice in the land of constant summer. I do appreciate my weather -- but at times I so miss the cool winter air. Everyone, enjoy the coming of Spring, gives us something to look forward to :-)
ReplyDeleteGeneral Lee is so darn cute!
