We didn’t get any snow (sigh) .. I REALLY wanted some snow…..but it has been cold…. so I drove around and found some ice!
Looks like fountains froze…
and this… is actually someone trying to save an orange tree…. They are trying to keep temperature at 32, temp. in teens will kill plant, so the ice is used as insulation. (makes you go hmmm…..)

Hey Susan, my pictures are of frozen water also. I guess we can't help it as cold as it's been. I'm ready for a thaw. Luv your pics.

Very nice captures! That's some ice fountains.
ReplyDeleteLots of snow here! I believe it will stay until about May. The ice is pretty impressive!
ReplyDeleteHi Susan,
ReplyDeleteWe had 2-4 inches of snow in the forecast here and ended up with less than an inch. Even with the frigid temps, most of it was gone my midday. Oh well .. maybe next time.
Your ice pictures are really dramatic! Fascinating (and educational) about the ice on the orange tree .. always wondered how that was supposed to help.
Regards,
Bill
Those are beautiful!
ReplyDeleteTunnels in Korea
That is crazy! I hope that everyone is remembering to turn off their outside taps or they will end up bursting and looking like those fountains! I live in Canada, it's January and today I went for a walk with a friend and he wore nothing but a t shirt! We are hosting the Winter Olympics in 30 days and the ski hills are all closed!! What's happening to the world?? LOL!! Have a great week, and thanks : )
ReplyDeleteoh my, frozen delight!:p
ReplyDeletehmmm. you are right. How does that work exactly? It always perplexed me. I am glad there is something we can do. Especially this year when all the southerners are getting these record breaking temperatures. It would be a shame to lose all your plants or shrubs because of a couple of cold nights. Thanks for showing us ~they do make for some interesting ice sculptures or monsters.
ReplyDeleteHi Susan,I love the look of frozen ice on the trees and fountain... very pretty.I am sharing an iced over fountain in a park downtown..have a good day. Baba
ReplyDeleteThose are so cool! We did get just a bit of Southern snow I posted pics of for this week.
ReplyDeleteGreat pics! Love the frozen waterfeature, but the tree is just fascinating! I'm in awe of how cold it's been in the northern hemisphere ....
ReplyDeleteHi Sweet Susan-- These are very very cool shots.

ReplyDeleteI'll send you French snow if you'd like some?
Not sure that tree will survive, maybe you'll let us know?
Happy OW.
Maggie
Susan,
ReplyDeleteGreat photos. Love all the ice.
Thanks for hosting each week

Hi Susan! Very interesting way to try to insulate the orange tree. You'll have to go back in the spring and show us the tree, so we can see if it worked. This cold weather is just everywhere this year. Thanks for hosting Outdoor Wed. laurie
ReplyDeleteThose are AMAZING and BEAUTIFUL!!!
ReplyDeletethanks for the explanation. I was wondering why they did that.
ReplyDeleteAfter freezing temps across Florida, we are finally going to warm up this weekend. The damage is extensive in many of our industries that are used to a tropical climate.
ReplyDeleteThose are really fantastic shots of the ice. We've still got snow on the ground, although it's pretty yucky-looking by now. But you could have some of ours if you want it!
ReplyDeleteThanks for hosting this every week!
The water will keep the oranges from freezing, but it must run continually. LOL Perhaps the person didn't know that!
ReplyDeleteNature IS beautiful in such an artistic way!!!
ReplyDeleteMine is sunshine on my shoulder...a pelican's shoulder that is. come see, mine too is beautiful. At least I think.
Oh my, that looks so cold! Great pictures!
ReplyDeleteWOW that is a lot of ice, but really beautiful!!
ReplyDeleteYesterday I posted about the new Country Garden magazine featuring my friend's potting shed on the cover.
Ohmygosh ... those are AMAZING ;-)

did not realize that ice could be used as insulation
ReplyDeleteI've seen that before (insulating trees with ice) and have always thought it was kind of cool :) I think the ice is gorgeous! Happy Wednesday Susan ♥
ReplyDeleteBeautiful ice! I love the look of ice -- but am a total chicken when it comes to walking on it. Ice as insulation? Wow --that's a new one for me. Poor tree!
ReplyDeleteCass
Susan, I would gladly send you some of our snow as well :) How cool your ice shots are and hopefully none of those beautiful fountains are broken from freezing over. I would think to ice up a tree like that would cause damage just from the extra weight of the ice but I guess a little damage is better than the tree being frozen out.
ReplyDeleteHappy OW - thank you for being a wonderful hostess!
Thanks so much for hosting. I love your pictures!
ReplyDeleteHi Susan,
ReplyDeleteI guess we all had ice on our blogs this week as the temps dipped to such lows all over this country! Loved seeing the fountains frozen into icey sculptures! I did know that ice will keep trees from freezing and I hope that it worked for that little orange tree.
Thanks for hosting OW.
~Jean
Fab!
ReplyDeleteWe were just discussing the way they are freezing the trees to save the fruits at my coffee group this morning. Very strange.
ReplyDeleteI think ice looks much colder than snow.
I'm cold just looking at those photos! Well, I'm just cold. We thought it would be warmer down here. :) We are warming up down here now and sincerely hope our winter is about over. It is only about 6 weeks until spring break.
ReplyDeleteWe wanted snow in Texas as well but only got the freezing cold temperatures. I love the pictures of the frozen fountains, they are beautiful!
ReplyDeleteHi Susan, Your pictures are wonderful! Amazing how the ice looks so beautiful on the orange tree they are trying to save. You captured some wonderful pictures! I just love the fountain.
ReplyDeleteMorning Susan, Love the way the water froze on the fountains. We are having a heat wave now, it will be in the 50's today...15 to 50.
ReplyDeleteI don't like it.
Barbara
These are like sculptures!
ReplyDelete...... icy perfection!
